FAQs
I have never surfed in my life. Is this trip for me?
We choose Canggu beach in Bali because it offers perfect and gentle waves for beginners and intermediate surfers. If you have never surfed in your life, this experience is perfect to introduce you to surfing and progress from scratch. For intermediate surfers, the conditions are spectacular for
improvement: clean right and left-hander waves, with sandy bottoms and no rip currents.
Should I bring my own surfboard and wetsuit?
If you are a beginner you don't need to bring a surfboard, we provide you with a surfboard according to your level, weight, and height. If you are an intermediate surfer and you usually surf with your own board and feel comfortable with it, we recommend you bring it with you. If we see that the board doesn't work for you, we will give you another one.
The average water temperature is 28,5°C/83,3°F so no wetsuit is necessary. However, we recommend surfing wearing a rashguard to avoid scratching your abdomen with the board and to avoid getting sunburnt. We provide them.
Do you have a schedule for the trip?
Yes, we do, this is our schedule. However, we know that it is a vacation and everyone is free to do what they want. If you are tired and want to miss a surf session it is obviously not mandatory.
Do I need travel insurance?
Travel insurance is mandatory in our experiences. Make sure the insurance company covers surfing as an activity. Some travel insurance companies that cover surfing are G1G, Safety Wing, and World Nomads. Click here to buy surf travel insurance directly online with our partners G1G.
Do I need a visa to enter the country?
Because of the pandemic, if you are in Indonesia for less than 30 days and you are from one of the 169 visa-exempt countries, you need a Visa on Arrival (VoA). It is processed in the airport of Bali, Denpasar, and costs around $35.
Citizens of most of the countries in the Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific are on this list. You can check the list of exempted countries here (Since July 27, 2022, Colombians with ordinary passports can enter Indonesia with Visa On Arrival for tourism and will not need a sponsor.)
If your country is not listed above then you will need to apply for a visa at the nearest Indonesian
Embassy before travelling to Indonesia.
In addition to the visa, you need:
● A passport that is valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Indonesia.
● Proof of a return flight or onward flight out of Indonesia.
● Vaccination certificate covid 19 (If you do not have a vaccination certificate, you must do aPCR test and 5 days of quarantine upon arrival.)
● Have the “Pedulilindungi” app installed and complete the form in the international EHACsection.
What airport should I fly into?
You have to fly to Bali Airport (Ngurah Rai) Denpasar, a 40-minute drive from our accommodation.
How does airport transportation work?
To benefit from the free shuttles included in this experience, you must arrive and leave on the same dates planned. Outside of these dates, transportation from the airport is not included.
For example, if you have booked a surf experience from March 11th to 18th, you have to arrive on the 11th and leave on the 18th to take the included shuttles.
If you arrive in advance, the hotel we collaborate with can sometimes accommodate you if there is availability (additional fees). We can also advise you on places to stay before your trip with us. Just write to us if you are interested.
You can land at any time and we will send an airport shuttle for you.
How do the shared rooms work?
The four share mixed dorms are a fun, accommodation option with views of Alternative Beach’s swimming pool. They boast exceptionally large bunk beds, private safety boxes, charging points, reading lights, mini wardrobes, bed linen and towels. They are the ultimate place to crash, whether you have had
a long day of exploring, and eating your way around Bali, or simply chilling by the pool.
The rooms are serviced daily and all linen is provided.
What clothes should I bring to Bali?
The average temperature in March is 27oC. Despite mid/late this month the rains drop off dramatically, some rain may occur in the afternoon so light clothing and a rain jacket is suggested.
What is the ideal currency?
It's best to take Indonesian Rupiah to Bali. If you can't buy some before your trip, the next best options are Australian Dollars (AUD), US Dollars (USD) or Euros (EUR). You can easily change these 3 currencies almost anywhere on the island.
How much extra money should I bring?
This depends on each person, we recommend bringing 300 USD and a debit/credit card to be able to withdraw local currency in an ATM if needed.
